Aune Heggebo has come under criticism for his recent performances for West Brom amid the team’s poor run of form, and Ryan Mason hasn't yet found a way to unlock his big-money signing.

Baggies boss Mason is under increasing pressure, with Albion struggling to find the back of the net in recent weeks.

Albion are winless in their last four league fixtures, and have now failed to score in each of their last three, which included two 1-0 defeats to Charlton and Ipswich Town, and a 0-0 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

24-year-old Heggebo arrived in the summer for £4.75m from Norwegian side Brann following Mason’s appointment as manager, and he has played in all of their 14 fixtures in the Championship so far this season.

However, he has contributed just one goal so far this term, with some suggesting that he has become too isolated in Mason’s system.

When asked about Heggebo’s struggles, Football League World's West Brom fan pundit, Callum Burgess, claimed that he needs to be played alongside Josh Maja or Daryl Dike in order to get the best out of him.

He believes that the Norwegian’s instincts in front of goal aren’t as sharp as someone like Maja, but that his link-up play ability would make him a good partner to the 26-year-old.

“I think that Heggebo would be a striker who definitely works best in a partnership alongside someone in the mould of Josh Maja,” Burgess told Football League World.

“I think that Maja would be waiting inside the box, and has probably more of a natural striker’s instinct to sniff out goals - like he did for his goal against Norwich City - rather than Heggebo, who has got the ability to link-up play, but he’s not really got that natural instinct I think.

“But I think that definitely Heggebo has turned out to be quite isolated in a lot of matches, but I think that if he is played alongside either Maja or Dike in the future, I think that’s how you’ll get the best out of him.”

West Brom went into the season hoping that Mason could guide the team towards a promotion push, but recent form has seen the club fall to 15th in the table.

The Baggies have won five of their opening 14 fixtures, and are five points adrift of the play-off places.

Next up for the Midlands outfit is a home clash against Oxford United on 8 November in a 3pm kick-off, before the final international break of the calendar year takes place.

Ryan Mason needs solution to West Brom’s lack of goals - He needs to crack Heggebo goalscoring puzzle

West Brom have scored just 12 times from their opening 14 fixtures, which is simply not good enough for a side with obvious Premier League promotion ambitions.

Only three clubs have scored fewer goals than them so far this season (Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Portsmouth), and their top scorer, Isaac Price, has found the net five times, with Mikey Johnston the next-highest scorer for Albion with two.

Therefore, getting more out of Heggebo must be an area Mason looks towards to try and get more out of the side’s attacking options, as given the fee splashed on him, it's evident that he was brought in to be the man to fire the club to the Premier League.

Pairing him with Maja has the potential to work extremely well, especially with the Nigerian starting to finally come back to full fitness now, and that looks like a solid place to start for Mason as he tries to solve the goalscoring puzzle that is troubling his marquee addition this season.
