According to ExpressAndStar.com, Albion must confirm their retained and released list by Saturday, May 16, the Football League’s third Saturday deadline. Only clubs involved in the play-offs are permitted an extension.
Clubs across the divisions have been publishing decisions since the season ended two weekends ago. Six senior Albion contracts expire at the end of June, including four attackers, two strikers and two wide players.
Among the wide players, club captain Jed Wallace reaches the end of the four-year deal he penned in 2022. He is joined by Karlan Grant, who has been with the Baggies for six years.
Strikers Daryl Dike and Josh Maja are also out of contract. Both had injury-hit spells but featured for head coach James Morrison late in the campaign.
In goal, Max O’Leary, signed on a short-term deal in January, is out of contract, as is Joe Wildsmith, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough and did not play. Director of football operations Ian Pearce, technical director Dominic Price and Morrison have discussed the squad’s make-up. Morrison said talks are under way, that negotiations can take time and that any agreements depend on club and players aligning, adding that he hopes the players feel what has been started and the principles built will carry forward.
