West Brom are expected to receive a windfall as former prospect Reyes Cleary edges towards a Barnsley exit before the transfer deadline. According to ExpressAndStar.com, a sell-on clause inserted by Albion means they stand to profit from his next move.

Cleary left The Hawthorns last summer after seven first-team appearances, rejecting a new deal to join League One Barnsley. He impressed in the third tier during his debut full season.

Albion are understood to have included a significant sell-on clause to reward any future progress. They were entitled to training compensation as he was under 23, having developed him from the age of eight. It is believed no initial fee was paid, with a sizeable sell-on negotiated and a pay-out expected later this summer.

The former Walsall loanee has attracted bids of around £3 million this summer from suitors. Interest from several Championship clubs remains, and it is understood a deal of at least £3 million is set to be completed before the transfer deadline on two September.

Cleary played 90 minutes as a lone forward in Barnsley’s 1-0 opening-day defeat to Bromley last Saturday under Daniel Stendel. He delivered seven goals and 13 assists in 42 league games last season, including a strike from his own half and a standout FA Cup display at Anfield in January.

Any sale is expected to hand Albion a significant financial boost in the coming weeks.
