West Brom are in talks to bring Celtic coach Gavin Strachan to The Hawthorns as James Morrison reshapes his backroom team, according to ExpressAndStar.com.
Morrison wants the 47-year-old, son of Scotland great Gordon, on board as he finalises plans for his first full season in charge.
Strachan has spent the past six years at Celtic, working under Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers and most recently Martin O’Neill. A former midfielder with Coventry and Hartlepool, he was assistant to Darren Ferguson at Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough.
Work on the coaching group has been ongoing this summer before pre-season. Morrison remains hopeful Matt Gill stays after their productive run-in helped secure Championship status.
He is also keen to add former Middlesbrough team-mate Tony McMahon to a role. McMahon, who lifted the FA Youth Cup with Morrison in 2004, was most recently director of football at York City.
Morrison, appointed permanent head coach at the end of the season, previously indicated the staff could be tweaked over the summer. He said he met a couple of candidates during the run-in but felt there was no need to bring anyone in at that stage.
Albion are also close to their first signings of the summer, with deals for strikers Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan. Stewart is poised to join from Falkirk for a seven-figure sum, with 20-year-old Morgan arriving from Chelsea for around £1.3 million.
