It could be a case of one in, one out up front for Nuno’s Hammers next month
Fullkrug is expected to leave West Ham in January after an injury-plagued stint in east London, with Serie A title contenders Milan prepared to take the German striker on loan.
Fullkrug, who has failed to score in nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, has struggled in the Premier League since his £27.5million move from Borussia Dortmund in summer 2024 and is not part of Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans for the future.
The 32-year-old was left out of West Ham’s matchday squad entirely against Aston Villa last weekend and has not started at all since Nuno’s second game in charge at the start of October, against Arsenal.
Fullkrug has suffered a number of injuries since arriving at the London Stadium and only recently returned from a thigh issue.
In his absence, Nuno has turned to Callum Wilson up front, and the Englishman has repaid his manager’s faith with three goals and an assist in his last six games.
West Ham are keen to bring in a striker in January, but first want to offload Fullkrug’s wages, with the forward’s contract running until 2028.
Fullkrug’s agent, Thorsten Wirth, openly admitted last month that his client's move to West Ham had not worked out and that it made sense for him to leave the club.
Speaking on the TOMorrow Business Podcast, Wirth said: “Looking back, we have to say the transfer didn’t work out. There’s no point in sugarcoating it.”
On whether Fullkrug could leave West Ham, Wirth added: “This always has to happen in cooperation with the club, but I believe it can make sense to change something there.”
