Dan Neil is set to become a free agent after helping Ipswich to win promotion as his Sunderland contract expires.
Ipswich Town secured promotion to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over QPR on the final day of the Championship.
Many expected the Tractor Boys to be in the mix for a top two finish due to the investment into the squad, but Kieran McKenna and the players deserve huge credit for getting the job done.
Now, attention will turn to strengthening the squad for the top flight, and it’s expected to be another busy summer at Portman Road.

One player who faces an uncertain future is Dan Neil, with the midfielder having joined Ipswich from Sunderland on loan in the January window.
However, with Neil’s contract at the Stadium of Light expiring this summer, it had already been confirmed that he would be departing the Black Cats, so Neil will be a free agent.
It doesn’t appear he will be short of options, as reports have claimed that Coventry are keen on Neil, along with Ipswich, who are keen to keep him permanently.
Furthermore, FLW exclusively revealed that Wolves are tracking Neil, as they prepare for life back in the Championship.
So, he is likely to have offers on the table, but the East Anglian Daily Times has stated that Neil is still deciding on his next move. They add that he will ‘assess his options’, which indicates that no announcement is imminent.
Ipswich have already completed permanent deals for Cedric Kipre and Chuba Akpom following their promotion.
Neil has obviously put himself in a position where he can decide his future, and it’s no surprise that he is going to take his time before deciding on his next move.
He hasn’t exactly set the world alight since he joined Ipswich, but he did play 16 games to help them win promotion, and you can be sure that McKenna will appreciate his contribution.
As Neil wasn’t a regular in the XI, it seems likely that Ipswich will only keep him as a squad option, and it could be a similar story at Coventry following their promotion.

So, if the ex-England youth international does want to prioritise game time, a move to the Championship may be on the cards.
When you consider he played so well for Sunderland at this level, and won a second promotion from the Championship with Ipswich, you would expect Neil to be a man in-demand.
As outlined above, Wolves are known to be admirers, but a host of other clubs in the second tier are sure to be keeping tabs on Neil, and whoever does snap him up on a free will be making a sensible signing.
Obviously, it’s now down to Neil, and you can’t imagine he will be in a rush to make a call on his next move, as he will be enjoying Ipswich’s promotion right now.
But, over the coming weeks, he will see what offers are on the table, and he will look to get everything finalised so he knows where he will be starting pre-season.
