With Manchester City losing to Newcastle it now means the Blues are up to second, one point ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men, and three behind leaders Arsenal who play Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Joe Cole praises Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez scored again as the Argentine continued his good start the season, and he’s now scored four goals in 11 league games.

The 24-year-old and Andrey Santos played well together in midfield as Moises Caicedo was given a rare afternoon off.

Although Fernandez wasn’t directly involved in Chelsea’s opener with Jamie Gittens setting up Pedro Neto, Cole feels the Argentina international still played a key role.

“What Enzo does, he makes a run, attracts Hartman, and they just get doubled up at the back post,” he told TNT Sports.

“For me, the midfielders not picking up Enzo there, Hartman has to jump in on him.”

It was a big boost to for Chelsea to have Fernandez fit after he withdrew from international duty citing pain in his knee.

The World Cup winner now faces another big task on Tuesday night against Spanish champions Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.

Andrey Santos impresses

Santos was tasked with the near impossibility of replacing Caicedo, but the 21-year-old passed the test with flying colours.
