Football League World takes a look at John Terry's net worth amid the news he is set to buy Colchester United
John Terry is set to buy League Two club Colchester United in a surprise new development, as the Chelsea legend explores fresh ventures within the game.
According to The Sun, Terry is set to purchase Colchester in a deal worth £14million, alongside a consortium.
The U's sit mid-table in League Two, and haven't returned to League One since being relegated from the third tier at the end of a poor 2015/16 campaign.
Colchester haven't landed a fourth-tier play-off spot since 2020, and will consequently hope that Terry's takeover will bring them better fortunes.
The former England and Chelsea defender will be subject to the Independent Football Regulator's ownership checks, which are set to replace the EFL's Owners' and Directors' Test by May.

Colchester's inconsistency in League Two was summed up on Easter weekend, when they were defeated 3-1 by Oldham Athletic on Good Friday, before beating Tranmere 1-0 on Easter Monday.
The U's subsequently enjoyed a 3-0 win over Swindon Town last Friday, but a play-off finish is likely beyond the reach of Danny Cowley's men.
However, as demonstrated by recent developments at both Wrexham and Birmingham City, celebrity involvement at ownership level can transform an EFL club, and Colchester will hope to win promotions under Terry's consortium.
The Chelsea legend's nephew, Frankie Terry, has made over 10 League Two appearances for Cowley's side since returning from a loan spell with non-league outfit Braintree Town.
Meanwhile, discussing the 45-year-old's takeover, a source told The Sun: "This has been a long time in the making, and JT is really excited for it all to become official. He's a hugely passionate advocate of lower league football, and helping clubs get the support and publicity they deserve.
"He's already been down to the training ground a few times and got stuck in without any fanfare. He really believes in the boys and, for their part, the lads at Colchester are absolutely buzzing that he's getting involved.
"He will bring a real stardust. Everyone involved with Colchester is excited, and the hope is that the deal will really put them on the map as they push for promotion."
As per the Mirror, Terry's net worth is said to be between £40million and £50m, while he was previously named as one of the world's top 10 richest footballers having been on a lucrative contract throughout his playing days at Stamford Bridge.

Colchester have been languishing in League Two for a decade, so Terry's takeover could be exactly what the Essex club need to finally land a long-awaited League One return.
Meanwhile, English football's business model means that clubs are essentially at the mercy of their owner, who tends to be a wealthy individual, while there are also community-owned outfits such as Exeter City and Wimbledon.
The shortcomings of the English game's current model have been highlighted by Sheffield Wednesday's financial struggles, as they were plunged into administration by former owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Courtesy of Chansiri's wrongdoings, the Owls have been deducted 18 points this season, and were consequently relegated from the Championship in February.
On the other hand, the recent takeovers at Birmingham and Wrexham have made Blues and the Red Dragons two of the nation's most-talked about clubs.
The positive developments in both the West Midlands and North Wales will give Colchester hope that they can excel under Terry's ownership.
