The Polish international has spent the past three years with Blues, but their spending spree over the past 12 months meant he had fallen down the pecking order under Chris Davies.

Therefore, they were willing to sanction a move for the versatile defender, and it was announced on Thursday night that he had made the short switch to link-up with the Baggies.

The 27-year-old will provide Ryan Mason with options in central defence and midfield, whilst his leadership and physicality are also going to appeal to the Albion boss.

West Brom are somewhat light in both areas of the pitch, and will welcome the addition of a player with years of Championship experience with the likes of Blues and ex-club Derby County.

And, from Bielik’s perspective, the transfer gives him the opportunity to get more game time, and he explained to the club’s media why he was attracted by the prospect of signing for West Brom, as he also opened up on the demands of the division.

"Albion are a massive club," Bielik explained.

"When I found out I could play for this team, I was really happy. The Championship is one of the hardest leagues, you have to be ready for everything that’s coming. You have to be prepared, you have to be fit, you have to be strong physically and mentally.

It’s nothing new for me, I’ve done it many times now, and I honestly can’t wait. I hope we can be very successful this season.”

Krystian Bielik can have a big role to play in West Brom’s promotion push

This feels like a very good deal for all parties, as Blues have shifted a squad player who would have been commanding a decent wage, whilst Albion bring in someone who can help the team, and Bielik will feel he has more chance of playing regularly at The Hawthorns.

You can see why Mason was determined to bring the ex-Derby man to the club, as he will bring good options to two key positions, and he is a leader who will help in the dressing room.

As well as that, the former Arsenal youngster is decent on the ball, so he should be suited to the sort of football that Mason wants Albion to play once he is settled into the group and understands what the manager wants.

Now, it’s down to Bielik to impress in training to force his way into the XI, and it will be interesting to see if he is involved when Albion make the trip to take on Wrexham tomorrow.
