The Owls have been up for sale since late October, when former owner Dejphon Chansiri placed them into administration after being unable to satisfy a £1m HMRC bill.

Despite being hit with an automatic 12-point deduction, which has since been increased to 18, as many as 80 parties came forward to enquire about purchasing the club.

Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley made a bid of £20m for the Steel City side, which was immediately bettered by three other parties. US billionaire John McEvoy has been reported to be in the mix on multiple occasions, whilst Sheffield United’s owners also supposedly made a shock enquiry about a potential takeover.

It was revealed last week that ex-Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT host Simon Jordan was part of a consortium interested in purchasing Wednesday, even providing £50m worth of funds. However, worries about financially compensating Chansiri meant that a deal didn’t progress into the latter stages.

Recently, Sheffield-born insurance tycoon Ryan Howsam admitted that he was behind Jordan’s involvement in a potential takeover, looking to utilise his public image in the same way Birmingham City have done with Tom Brady.

This provoked Jordan to provide another update on the situation, where he gave a cryptic clue to Wednesday supporters about what may be coming next.

“Ryan Howsam, is one of the best uk entrepreneurs… fabulous businessman ..” stated Jordan.

“Football is a very different business and whilst I have endlessly advocated for #swfc .. a deal has to be right and this one was beginning to not be …

“That said I think swfc will be fine …”

Sheffield Wednesday fans have interpreted this message in a number of ways, with some believing that Jordan knows more about the takeover process than most, given the last line of text.

“Come on Simon tell us who is going to get it…” asked one supporter. “Appreciate all your kind comments about us owls. You’ve been championing the club for a long time.”

“The very last line,” stated another.

“He will know who his competitors are more than any. That last line for me is a massive indication that whoever is front runner is potentially something special imo.”

“It ‘sounds like’ they all know / expect to be blown out of water by someone or some group,” theorised one more fan.

Others took the time to praise Jordan for constantly shining a positive light on their club, even through difficult times and always calling out Chansiri for his wrongdoings as an owner.

“I hope you can be involved as a UK football person who holds SWFC in high regard,” said a Wednesday supporter. “In some form with the winning bidder. Owls fans think highly of you.”

“You've done more than enough, simon,” stated another. “Your voice carries, and you've clearly got some very respectable people interested in our club. For that, i say thank you.”

Jordan may not be part of the next ownership of Sheffield Wednesday, but he will possess knowledge on the process that most others don’t.

Having been part of a consortium that proved its funds to the administrators, the former Palace owner will no doubt be aware of his direct competition.

Therefore, stating that the Owls will be fine can be taken as a potential clue that he knows one or more parties have extremely ambitious plans for the Hillsborough outfit with the finances to match.

Only time will tell, but Jordan probably wouldn’t have left such a cryptic message if there wasn’t some sort of backing behind it.
