Following a hectic January transfer window, Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri has been handed a partially revamped midfield department.

Lazio Parted Ways with Matteo Guendouzi & Matias Vecino

The Biancocelesti added five new first-team players to their ranks, while parting ways with four, but the middle of the park was the area that witnessed the most changes, and arguably the most significant. Sarri was dealt a big blow as Matteo Guendouzi was sold to Fenerbahce without being properly replaced, as the manager would argue.

Kenneth Taylor & Adrian Przyborek: The New Additions in Lazio Midfield

Moreover, veteran servant Matias Vecino was allowed to leave on a free transfer to Celta Vigo in a deal that lightened the wage bill. On the other hand, the Aquile signed 23-year-old Dutch midfielder Kenneth Taylor from Ajax, and 19-year-old Polish playmaker Adrian Przyborek.

So, with two departures and two arrivals, what will be Sarri’s new hierarchy in midfield?

Not Much Has Changed for Rovella & Cataldi

AS Il Corriere dello Sport explains, the Regista position will remain intact, with Nicolo Rovella and Danilo Cataldi sharing the role. The former Juventus man is considered the first choice, but he hasn’t been fit since the start of the season due to a groin problem.

Taylor Immediately Occuppied the Left Side

Only a few days following his arrival, Taylor was immediately thrust into a starting role on the left side of the midfield trident. The Dutchman has already made the role his, especially following his convincing showing against Genoa. Przyborek is considered his understudy, albeit he has different characteristics. The teenager is originally an attacking midfielder who offers a creative flair in possession.

Toma Basic Shifted to the Right

Finally, the left-footed Toma Basic has been moved to the right side of the midfield trio to accomodate Taylor. The Croatian remains an automatic starter in Sarri’s plans, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru should be his main back-up, with Reda Belahyane adding further depth for this role. However, the Moroccan’s chances of earning prominent playing time remain slim.
