Where is Gabriel Vasconcelos, Corinthians’ 2015 Copinha top scorer

Corinthians is the biggest champion of the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, known as the Copinha, with eleven titles won. One of the most recent and emblematic titles was in 2015, when Timãozinho claimed the tournament for the ninth time in its history. That campaign featured players who moved up to the professional squad after standing out, such as Maycon and Arana, but also had some flops, like Matheus Cassini.

Gabriel Vasconcelos was one of those players who didn’t succeed at the professional level. As a center forward, he was the top scorer for Corinthians and the 2015 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, with eight goals. At 19 years old, he had the opportunity to train with the senior squad after the competition, but did not get a chance to play.

With no opportunities to play and having outgrown the under-20 level, Vasconcelos was loaned out to several clubs in the country, such as América-RJ, Joinville, Oeste, Ponte Preta, and São Bento, until he moved for free to York9 in Canada at the beginning of 2020.

In 2021, he returned to Brazil and played in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B for Sampaio Corrêa, a club from Maranhão. After a year in the Brazilian northeast, he transferred to Al-Ettihad, a club in Bahrain, a country in the Middle East.

After ending his contract with the club in September 2023, he agreed to move to Bahrain SC, in the same country, where he remains to this day. Now 29 years old, he plays as a midfielder, unlike the position he played in Corinthians’ youth system, where he first made a name for himself in Brazil.
