Chelsea are being linked with interest in Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

According to TeamTalk, the Blues are looking into the 23 year old, who is impressing despite the Seagulls struggles. A truly modern goalkeeper, the Dutchman looks comfortable on the ball and between his posts.

Brighton know what a talent they have, and are apparently asking for an insane £50m fee. Perhaps that’s because they know that Chelsea, along with Bayern Munich, are being strongly linked.

Chelsea more likely to stick with established first option

At this stage, we’re not believing any rumours about a new first choice goalkeeper. The sporting directors have backed Robert Sanchez all the way, even when his form was at its worst.

Now he’s playing the best he’s played in his Chelsea career, they’re hardly going to bail out now. So for now, we’re not convinced. Replacing Filip Jorgensen, who looks likely to leave in the summer in search of more playing time, with a new second choice talent, is very much on the cards, however.

The future of young talent Mike Penders, currently on loan at sister club Strasbourg, is also a major piece of the puzzle. He still looks like a year or two away from competing at Stamford Bridge – but dropping £50m on a player just a few years older still doesn’t seem wise.

In other news…

Chelsea are already looking forward to their summer business, and it seems like they will be jostling for one of the top free agents available in the Premier League this summer, breaking their usual pattern.

Cole Palmer’s late miss really cost Chelsea against Leeds, but in the end he’s done so much for the Blues (including in that game) that nobody is really going to blame him.
