Why Arsenal’s Derby Win Felt Bigger Than Just Three Points

Article image:Why Arsenal’s Derby Win Felt Bigger Than Just Three Points

Today was not any old win for the one and only Arsenal, it was a testament to their strength and character which hopefully they will carry forward with them for the rest of the Premier League season. The 4 to 1 beating over Spurs proved that Mikel Arteta’s red and white army have the courage and belief to bounce back from disappointing results, such as that extremely painful 2 to 2 draw versus Sunderland who have only just come up from the Championship last time out before the international break.

It was a bitter day which I am sure left many Gooners minds and hearts confused in our quest to lift the Premiership for the first time in over twenty years, since the almighty 2003 to 2004 invincible season. The North Londoners sit top of the Premiership proudly by six points, restoring belief in every Arsenal fan around the world that perhaps this season will be ours for good after finishing three campaigns second gut wrenchingly.

In a weekend of Premier League upsets Arsenal prevailed, remaining undeterred versus Tottenham, their arch rivals from down the road, with great swagger in attack which could not be matched or forced to submit. That was unlike yesterday when Liverpool were sideswiped by Nottingham Forest at Anfield and Manchester City lost 2 to 1 at Newcastle, who certainly have not matched the form which saw them lift the League Cup last season over the red side of Merseyside.

Arsenal Find Their Feat In The Derby

I was admittedly concerned in the first half an hour of the game, questioning whether we would make the most of our seventy per cent possession, falling into the trap of same old Arsenal which we escaped proudly. After thirty six minutes Leandro Trossard opened the lead up with the help of a much needed deflection in order for the ball to roll over the line.

In less than ten minutes it was Eberechi Eze who doubled Arsenal’s advantage with a sublime finish, and within moments of the final forty five of the first half he slid in a second to make it 3 to 0. However before long, on fifty five minutes, we conceded to our enemy with Richarlison making the most of David Raya being off his line.

Eze Seals The Derby In Style

In the final quarter Eze effortlessly delivered the goods again, snatching a heroic hat trick and making it 4 to 1 for the Arsenal faithful. Arsenal really had to win today to keep their title dreams intact and that was just what they did.

What did you make of Arsenal’s dominant 4 to 1 win over Spurs and Eze’s hat trick heroics?Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
