Why Juventus rejected late offers for Teun Koopmeiners | OneFootball

Teun Koopmeiners was one of the players Juventus wanted to sell this summer, with the Bianconeri doing their best to find a new home for the Dutchman.

Juve considered him one of the players earning too much money to not be part of their starting team, which made his potential departure a priority. The Bianconeri were therefore prepared to listen to offers and worked to offload him during the transfer window.

However, teams did not show much interest until late in the window. Several clubs appeared in the final days and hours, including Besiktas, but Juventus decided to reject their approaches.

Juventus reject late approaches

The decision would have surprised those clubs, considering Koopmeiners had been available for much of the summer. Juve had made it clear that they wanted to sell the midfielder, yet they still refused to accept the late approaches for his signature.

The Bianconeri had their reasons for making that decision. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the offers arrived too late in the transfer window for Juventus to consider allowing Koopmeiners to leave.

By that point, Juve had already lost Fabio Miretti on loan and Khephren Thuram had also suffered an injury. Those developments left the Bianconeri with fewer options in midfield and made another departure difficult to justify.

Midfield concerns force Juve decision

Juventus therefore felt it made little sense to offload another midfielder from a position that had already become problematic for them. Despite their desire to sell Koopmeiners, the circumstances had changed by the time the late approaches arrived.

The Bianconeri had to consider the balance of their squad and could not afford to weaken an area that was already facing difficulties. Losing Miretti on loan and Thuram to injury meant Koopmeiners suddenly became more important as an available midfield option.

As a result, clubs that waited until the final days and hours of the window to make their moves were left disappointed. Their strategy of waiting to approach Juve late ultimately worked against them, as Juventus no longer felt able to sanction Koopmeiners’ departure.
