Under threat of a 2026-27 ban from UEFA’s financial watchdog, Marseille even considered skipping the Europa League.
According to L'Équipe, the club weighed the pros and cons of a non-entry as the possibility of exclusion lingered.

On 17 June, the UEFA Club Financial Control Body sanctioned Marseille with a €10m fine and a one-year suspended penalty to put its finances in order.
If it fails to do so, it would be automatically excluded from any European competition in 2027-28, or later if it does not qualify at the end of next season.
The immediate prospect of forgoing the Europa League, which had loomed for weeks late in spring, has since been removed.
