Monaco have completed the signing of former Nantes striker Matthis Abline, a move seen as a bet on his potential in a sought-after position.

He has agreed a five-year contract and took part in his first training session on Thursday morning. According to L'Équipe, the fee sits around €30m, structured as €25m plus €5m in add-ons per Monaco, while Nantes say €30m is guaranteed.

The outlay is significant in Ligue 1, currently the most expensive incoming of the window, ahead of Patrick Zabi’s €25m move to Paris FC, who play in Ligue 2, from Reims.

No transfer from Nantes had previously reached such a sum.

Abline arrives despite coming off a relegation to Ligue 2, with Monaco treating it as an investment in potential at a prized position.
