Newcastle United have now completed the signing of Ousmane Diabate, who is returning to Turkey and ‘will be on the field’ for Genclerbirligi’s match on Sunday.

Young midfielder Diabate made his breakthrough for Turkish side Genclerbirligi last season, attracting attention from a number of clubs with his performances.

The Guinea international featured seven times, playing 397 minutes in total, and was handed a starting role in Genclerbirligi’s opening fixture of the new campaign against Fenerbahce.

Talk of a potential summer exit for Diabate first emerged last month, with Newcastle among the clubs monitoring the young midfielder’s development.

The Magpies, who ‘started talks for the transfer’ of the 18-year-old earlier this week, moved quickly to secure the signature of the Guinea international, further highlighting their focus on youth during this summer’s transfer window.

However, under the agreed terms of the deal, Diabate will remain at Genclerbirligi on loan for the remainder of the 2026/27 campaign to continue his first-team development before officially moving to St James’ Park next summer.

Now, according to Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak, Diabate has indeed completed his move to the Magpies, but is returning to Turkey and ‘will be on the field’ for Genclerbirligi’s match on Sunday.

The Guinea international has joined the list of Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, clearly indicating Newcastle’s emphasis on youth in their squad rebuild.

The Magpies are also prioritising the addition of an experienced midfielder before the transfer window closes, but their focus on youth has been clear.

With the new Premier League season set to start this evening, there is pressure on Newcastle to get more deals done quickly to avoid running out of time.
