Will Ferry contract update emerges after Celtic interest and failed £1.7m transfer | OneFootball

Dundee United chief Luigi Capuano has provided a fresh update on Will Ferry’s future after the defender attracted interest from Celtic during the summer.

Ferry was one of the defensive options watched closely by the Hoops, but remained at Tannadice despite significant speculation over a possible departure.

The 25-year-old revealed earlier this week that talks over a new Dundee United contract had been put on hold for the time being.

United were willing to sell Ferry during the summer and reportedly accepted a £1.7million offer from Sigma Olomouc, only for the player to turn down the move.

Capuano has now confirmed there was continued interest in Ferry throughout the window and explained where the club stand with his future.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “We did accept a bid. Will has spoken in recent days and said he didn’t feel it was the right move for him.

“Again, that is football and we understood that. There was continued interest over the summer.”

United had already offered Ferry fresh terms amid Celtic’s interest, and Capuano insists the Tannadice club remain keen to protect the value of one of their key players.

He continued: “He felt you can’t be seen to be letting your best players go for nominal fees. I don’t think that’s the right message to send.

“So, we’ll continue to speak to Will and his representatives about a longer term contract, which we have already offered and we’ll continue to do that.”
