Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor was really pleased to see her side reach yet another Subway Women’s League Cup final by beating Manchester City 1-0 in their semi-final tie at The Joie Stadium last night.

Wieke Kaptein netted the only goal of the game as The Blues’ trophy defence continued.

Speaking to the media after the match, Bompastor admitted that she was pleased to see her side reach the Subway Women’s League Cup final once again.

“I’m really pleased,” Bompastor said. “As you can see, it was tough and we were expecting that. Being able to come here in this ground and play Man City, who are in really good form, scoring a lot of goals [and beat them is pleasing]. In some moments of the game, we were a little bit lucky.

“I think it’s a great result and a great performance. It’s great for my players.”

Bompastor also highlighted the importance of reaching a final in terms of achieving seasonal goals.

She said “Winning never gets old and for a club like Chelsea, it’s really important. We go into every game to compete and to win. We stated our ambitions from the beginning of the season, but proving it on the pitch is even more crucial.”

Manchester City are a familiar foe to Chelsea with The Blues having faced them four times in a row last year. Bompastor said that it was the smallest margins that contributed to their latest win against The Cityzens.

She said “The game was defined by fine margins. I think City are a great team with great players. Before we played the game tonight, they were scoring many goals with a lot of attacking threats and we knew it would be a tough game again.”

Chelsea return to action on Saturday when they play host to Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
