With Cruzeiro loan ending, Fagner’s future at Corinthians remains unclear

The right-back Fagner, on loan from Corinthians, is facing uncertainty about his future at Cruzeiro. Out of the field since July due to a severe injury, the player is still recovering, and according to information obtained by ESPN, his stay with the Minas Gerais team is considered unlikely. Timão, the club he is contracted with until the end of 2026, shows interest in negotiating a permanent transfer.

Behind the scenes, however, there is no decision regarding Cruzeiro's intention to finalize the purchase. Currently, Fagner is on loan until December, with Corinthians covering half of his salary. Despite his good adaptation to life in Belo Horizonte, where his son plays in Cruzeiro's youth categories, the scenario points to a departure at the end of the loan.

One of the reasons is the competition within the squad. Cruzeiro already has right-backs William and the young Kauã Prates, and is in negotiations to sign Mateusinho from Cuiabá. Therefore, the Minas Gerais management considers Fagner's stay unnecessary, as he has played 16 matches and provided one assist in the celestial jersey.

If the experienced defender indeed leaves Toca da Raposa, he will return to Corinthians, as he still has a valid contract until the end of 2026. However, the tendency is that he will not remain with the São Paulo club either. Internally, the understanding is that an amicable termination would be the most likely path, allowing the athlete to seek a new destination in the market.

Fagner has not played since July 30, when he suffered a fracture after being fouled during the match against CRB in the Copa do Brasil. Since then, he has been undergoing treatment with no exact return date.
