Wolfsburg face competition for the signing of Mattias Svanberg | OneFootball

Wolfsburg are seeking the services of Swedish international Mattias Svanberg from FC Bologna but face competition from Premier League clubs and Napoli, according to Kicker.

Despite reports in Italy that Svanberg to Wolfsburg is a done deal, it’s believed that the German club have some way to go before making the transfer official.

On paper, Svanberg fits Wolfsburg and head coach Nik Kovac’s policy to work with young players. Despite being only 23-year-old, the midfielder would bring a wealth of experience with him. Svanberg moved from Malmö to Bologna in 2018 and has gone on to play 115 games in Serie A and make 22 appearances for Sweden.

Since the departure of Xaver Schlager to Leipzig, Wolfsburg have been looking into a replacement as Kovac put it: “We will definitely keep our eyes open.” It’s reported that Wolfsburg’s representatives are working flat out to try and get the deal over the line.

VfL are currently in a training camp in Austria before flying to Belgium for a game against KV Mechelen. Upon their arrival back to Germany, they would ideally want Svanberg to join the squad then.
