Wolves 0-0 Estoril: Munetsi impresses as Trippier shows his class | OneFootball

Wolves opened pre-season with a 0-0 draw against Estoril in Portugal on Saturday, offering the first glimpse of Cesar Peixoto’s side. Their week-long Algarve camp is over and attention now turns to four friendlies in front of fans before the campaign begins.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Peixoto picked a stronger XI for the first 60 minutes and Wolves created several chances without finding a finish.

Back from a Paris FC loan, Marshall Munetsi started ahead of Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore and seized it. He pressed with energy, regained possession and passed forward, making number eight runs. Though divisive and not the most polished technically, he could still add value in the Championship.

Fer Lopez, another loanee returnee, operated as the number 10 and found dangerous pockets, dribbled neatly and handled set pieces. The Spaniard has the tools to hurt teams but his decision making must sharpen. He sometimes carried the ball too long, prompting Peixoto to urge him to release it.

New signing Kieran Trippier provided calm, experience and guidance. He mentored Rodrigo Gomes on the right and covered when Nasser Djiga or Toti Gomes were exposed. A free-kick routine with Lopez and Mateus Mane led to a superb Trippier cross that really should have been finished.

Teenager Mateus Mane threatened from the left. Still short of rhythm, he nevertheless rode tackles, dribbled with purpose and created chances. The 18-year-old looks stronger than last season and could be in for a big year if things go his way.
