Wolves are interested in Ellis Simms as they look to strengthen Cesar Peixoto's squad ahead of the transfer deadline.

Wolves have been told to try and finalise a move for Ellis Simms from Coventry City, with the striker backed to give Cesar Peixoto’s side something different in the final third.

It has been a slow transfer window for Wanderers so far, with Jordan James the fourth new arrival after deals for Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez and Rafiki Said.

Whilst they look like smart additions, many expected a bigger overhaul at Molineux, although they have also struggled with shifting players out of the club.

Wolves interested in Coventry City’s Ellis Simms

Nevertheless, Wolves will expect to bring at least a few more new signings ahead of the deadline, and it has been claimed that Simms is on their radar.

The 25-year-old scored 13 goals in 43 appearances as Frank Lampard’s side won the Championship title, and he has continued to impress in pre-season.

However, with Sidiki Cherif and Taiwo Awoniyi having joined the Sky Blues, Simms may find himself falling down the pecking order.

Plus, with his contract running down, Coventry know they may need to cash in, which will only help Wolves when it comes to negotiations.

Wolves told to seal transfer move for Coventry City’s Ellis Simms

So, it’s certainly one to monitor ahead of the deadline, and Wolves’ lack of quality from the bench in their 2-2 draw with Blackburn highlighted the need for reinforcements.

And, when asked by FLW about the prospect of Simms arriving at Molineux, Wolves fan pundit Thomas Woodhall explained why the striker would give Peixoto a different ‘option’.

This would be a good move. I think Adam Armstrong could be deployed on the left at times this season, which we saw at Southampton in the past, and he scored a lot from that position.

So, having Simms, who is Championship proven (makes sense). He is great in the air, he could be a good player to bring on in the last 20 minutes when you’re putting balls into the box.

He would add something different to the attack, and he could be the second striker at the club. I think we’ll have a lot of rotation among the front three, to keep everyone fresh, with the amount of games we play.

If we get a new winger and Rodrigo Gomes on the right, Simms and Raul Jimenez up front, and Mateus Mane and Armstrong on the left, it’s a lot of options. They’re all interchangeable as well, as they can play in different roles, so it’s good to have so many options.

Simms is homegrown as well, which is exactly what we need, so I think it would be a positive move.”

Wolves must try to bring in another physical striker

Most would agree that a new striker would help Wolves, and they certainly need someone who has a physical profile like Simms.

But, it won’t be easy to find a player who will agree to join, as Jimenez is going to be the main man moving forward.

Whilst Armstrong can play as a number nine, he isn’t as capable with his back to goal, and he lacks the strength to bring others into play.

So, with Saša Kalajdžić not in Peixoto’s plans, Wolves would benefit from another number nine, and, if they could get Simms, the attack would look excellent for this level, with a range of different qualities among the players in the squad.
