Rui Patricio has announced his retirement at 37, and Wolves fans have floated the idea that the Molineux favourite could still help the current side.
According to Molineux.news, the Portuguese goalkeeper joined in 2018 for £16 million and was central to early Premier League stability, including a Europa League quarter-final run. The Jorge Mendes connection underpinned the deal, and remains in place with Fer Lopez the latest client to arrive, though the Spaniard is already linked with a move away.
Patricio’s career highlight came with UEFA EURO 2016 glory for Portugal. He did not lift silverware at Wolves, but his saves are cherished, and with him in goal the club finished seventh in back-to-back seasons, a contrast to the present.
On X, formerly Twitter, supporters suggested he could still start now, urged Wolves to bring him back, and even wondered about a Championship stint next season.
Wolves are looking for a goalkeeper based on reports. They have been linked with Lazio’s Christos Mandas, who could be available for around £six million, and Manchester City’s James Trafford, who has barely featured since Gianluigi Donnarumma was signed, the Italian becoming Pep Guardiola’s number one.
Whether a deal happens remains unclear, with Sam Johnstone and Jose Sa not convincing this season. Any arrival will hope to replicate the impact Patricio once had at Molineux.
