Wolves supporters voiced surprise and frustration after head coach Rob Edwards was dismissed on Thursday morning, ending a tenure that began in November last year. He oversaw 30 matches in all competitions, with 16 defeats.

Edwards left Middlesbrough’s Championship promotion push to replace the sacked Vitor Pereira. A former Wolves player, he made 100 appearances between 2004 and 2008 and later worked in the academy.

The move was labelled shocking by figures close to the club. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the club looks set to appoint Cesar Peixoto as his replacement.

Dan Warren, 33, from Oxley and a former Wolves Supporters Trust figure, expected Edwards to be kept for next season, given a likely Championship reset. He worries about the club’s direction, saying six months with a poor, inherited squad was not enough and that promises to Edwards appear broken.

Toni Clayton, 35, from Dunstall, felt the decision was harsh and believed a Championship reset, perhaps even with Raul Jimenez returning, could have helped. Kevin Bourne, 51, from Wednesfield, said performances had improved and asked what was expected from a November appointment, adding he did not know the incoming coach.

William Miles, 66, from Heath Town, questioned the timing and whether a successor was already lined up, and felt Edwards lacked time and the right players. Others welcomed the change, with Bill Agar, 62, from Pennfields, arguing Edwards had not delivered and calling for Nuno or even Steve Bull, while accepting the job is tough.
