Wolves' Ladislav Krejci leads Czechia to World Cup, West Brom debut and Aston Villa highs and lows

Wolves’ Ladislav Krejci led Czechia to a first World Cup in 20 years, Denmark beaten on penalties after extra time in a gripping play-off.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the captain scored in the semi-final, then again in extra time after a 1-1 draw, Denmark levelling before a 3-1 shootout. He missed his kick but lauded a wholehearted team and called penalties a lottery.
Jackson Tchatchoua captained Cameroon in a 2-0 friendly win over China, with Wolves youngster Xu Bin featuring for China.
David Moller Wolfe came on for Norway in a 0-0 draw with Switzerland, then was replaced by former Albion defender Torbjorn Heggem.
Jose Sa played 85 minutes in Portugal’s 2-0 win over World Cup hosts USA. On-loan striker Sasa Kalajdzic appeared for Austria in a 1-0 victory against South Korea, with Hwang Hee-chan off the bench for the visitors.
West Brom’s Ousmane Diakite made his senior Mali debut as a second-half substitute in a 0-0 draw with Russia.
In under-21 European qualifying, Alex Williams played 79 minutes and Ollie Bostock came on as Wales lost 4-0 to Denmark, while Souleyman Mandey debuted in Austria under-21s’ 2-1 win over Belarus.
For Aston Villa, Matty Cash missed out on the World Cup as Poland lost 3-2 to Sweden, though Victor Lindelöf captained the winners. Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa started England’s 1-0 defeat by Japan, who became the first Asian side to beat England. Emi Martinez started Argentina’s 5-0 win over Zambia and Youri Tielemans featured in Belgium’s 1-1 draw with Mexico.
