Conor Coady spent eight years with Wolves before leaving in 2023

Wolves are interested in bringing Wrexham defender Conor Coady back to the club in a coaching capacity as part of Rob Edwards' coaching staff at Molineux.

According to The Telegraph, the Premier League side are keen on a reunion with the centre-back, who departed Molineux in 2023 - but not in a playing capacity.

Coady was a key figure for the Midlands outfit when they first earned promotion back to the Premier League in 2018 under Nuno Espirito Santo.

He was also with the club when new manager Edwards previously worked there as a first-team coach, and he wants to lean on that connection to bring the former England international back.

The 32-year-old is currently plying his trade with Wrexham, having joined in the summer following their promotion to the Championship, but how much longer will he be at the Racecourse Ground for?

Wolves targeting Wrexham defender Conor Coady for coaching role

As per The Telegraph's John Percy, Wolves are reportedly wanting to take Coady from Wrexham to offer him his first ever coaching role - despite being on a multi-year deal in North Wales.

However, it’s believed that such a move is unlikely to happen, which would make sense given the fact he has over a year-and-a-half remaining on his playing contract.

Coady was expected to have been an important part of Phil Parkinson’s squad, given his top level experience, but the defender has made just five league appearances so far this season, having been dropped following a string of poor performances.

Coady made 151 appearances across four Premier League seasons for Wolves, and he has a strong connection to the club given his longetivity and the fact he made his breakthrough into the England setup whilst he was there.

Edwards has been confirmed as their latest manager, arriving in place of Vitor Pereira after a compensation fee was agreed to let him leave Middlesbrough.

Conor Coady is still useful to Wrexham despite lack of game-time

Coady has four years of Premier League experience under his belt, which is very valuable to have in the dressing room at the moment.

His game-time has been limited in the last couple of months, but it would make little sense for Wrexham to let him go to start off his coaching career unless they were being heavily compensated.

The defender is still a useful asset to have in Parkinson’s squad, even if he remains a secondary option for the rest of the campaign.

Coady has a contract until 2027, and based off Capology's estimated weekly wage of £25,000 per week that he's earning, the Red Dragons still owe him over £2 million in wages until the summer of 2027 - it's a fair sum of money, and one that is unlikely to be replicated in the coaching position that Wolves want to offer.
