Day one of the Express & Star trip to Portugal began before dawn, with arrival on the Algarve setting up a packed week covering Wolves’ pre-season camp.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the day started with a four am alarm, a lift to Birmingham airport and, despite fears of queues at the Jet2 bag drop and security, the whole process took 45 minutes before departures.
A quick Popeyes breakfast at six am preceded boarding for Faro. The two hours and 50 minutes in the air passed with intermittent sleep. On landing, an Irish passport meant a swift passage through Faro’s often lengthy control, then it was bag collected and onto a shuttle for the nearby hire car depot.
It was a first time driving abroad on the other side of the road. A free upgrade moved the booking from a Fiat Panda to an Opel Corsa, and the automatic gearbox helped. The drive to the apartment was completed without drama.
Base is a seaside town on the Algarve within driving distance of Wolves’ training base. After stocking up on food, the evening was spent getting ahead on work.
The series on Fosun’s 10 years owning Wolves will continue this week, while the stay in Portugal will include exclusive insight into Cesar Peixoto’s training sessions.
Express & Star will also provide exclusive interviews, daily videos and this diary throughout the week as the players are put through their paces for a return to the Championship in the 2026/27 season.
