Liverpool are set to lose a true star at the end of the season. The problem is that he's still genuinely world-class.

Liverpool's squad situation is complex to say the least. They've got to sort issues all over the place - for one, only two of the five centre-backs are actually contracted beyond this season.

There aren't any right-wingers in the group, either, and the midfield looks entirely imbalanced. There's work to be done, in other words, and they can't afford to waste much time getting it sorted.

And one position is particularly strange. Especially when the current star is arguably the best around still.

Alisson Becker's contract

Alisson Becker was outstanding once again on Sunday. He was arguably the best player on the pitch, in fact, and one save he made to keep a clean sheet was unquestionably the biggest moment of quality from the fixture.

In fact, the xGOT of the shot from Evanlison was 0.87. In other words, given where the striker put the shot, it should have gone in 87 per cent of the time. Alisson had absolutely no right to keep it out but he somehow got down to his right to claw the effort away. Sensational stuff.

And that was Alisson's game. He did everything to the highest level, both with his feet and his hands, providing Liverpool the base they needed to go and pick up three points. It is not an understatement to say that the Reds do not win that match if any other Premier League goalkeeper had been between the sticks.

That's the major problem here, too. Because Liverpool only have a few more months of Alisson left before he departs at the end of his contract. There are very few signs that he'll renew his deal and, in fact, the club were open to selling him in the summer.

But it's surely apparent to all right now that swapping Alisson out for any even half-reasonable replacement will see a massive drop in quality at Liverpool. They simply won't find another goalkeeper who can provide what their current no.1 can and, again, he's set to leave the club next year.

Hopefully, the Reds are doing all they can to renew that contract. Alisson remains a world-class, elite-level goalkeeper and the kind you just don't replace.

Keeping him should be around the top of the agenda right now.
