Fenerbahce have eyed a move for Sidiki Cherif, who has already attracted transfer interest from Wrexham.

Fenerbahce are set to hand Wrexham a major stumbling block in their search to acquire a new striker before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Phil Parkinson's men are eager to bolster their frontline to ensure that they land a Championship play-off spot ahead of fellow top-six chasers such as Bristol City.

The Red Dragons can boost their promotion credentials with a victory over bottom-side Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Wrexham have eyed a move for Sidiki Cherif, who currently operates as a striker for French top-flight outfit Angers, and has scored four goals this season.

The Red Dragons are set for a huge £48m investment from Atletico Madrid's majority shareholders, which could help the Championship side complete their swoop for the Angers youngster.

Meanwhile, The Guardian's Ed Aarons has revealed via X that Cherif is unlikely to join Palace, who could not agree on a fee for the 19-year-old after having two bids rejected.

Aarons's report added that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are interested in the striker and have held talks with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Fenerbahce sit three points behind fierce rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig title race, while they are also battling to seal a spot in next season's Champions League.

Sidiki Cherif developments may prompt Wrexham to step up Adam Armstrong interest

Wrexham have been on an incredible journey in recent seasons, clinching promotions all the way from the National League to the Championship.

Helping Parkinson's side complete their journey from non-league to the Premier League could be an appealing option for Cherif to take at an early stage in his career.

However, if the teenager joins transfer rivals Fenerbahce instead of the Red Dragons, he could win the Turkish Super Lig title this term, which would see him playing Champions League football next season.

Meanwhile, Wrexham have also eyed a move for Southampton hotshot Adam Armstrong, who has proven himself as one of the Championship's best strikers in recent seasons.

Cherif could have his head turned by Fenerbahce's advances for his services, meaning that the Red Dragons may have to step up their pursuit of Armstrong.

The Southampton ace is an excellent alternative to the Angers man, and has notched 11 goals and four assists in 29 second-tier appearances this term.

Armstrong previously demonstrated his clinical ability in the 2023/24 Championship season, helping the Saints secure promotion with 24 goals and 13 assists.

If Wrexham sign the former Blackburn Rovers man, he could help them reach the Premier League and add another promotion to his CV.
