Wrexham have bought The Turf, the pub beside the Racecourse Ground, as part of a wider redevelopment centred on a £69.1 million Kop stand.

According to NY Times, Wrexham Holdings has acquired the venue from Admiral Taverns, with landlord Wayne Jones remaining in charge and day-to-day operations unchanged. The purchase offers opportunities to enhance the Mold Road fan zone and other supporter activities next to the pub, and follows nearby land deals enabling the Kop’s construction.

The Turf, popularised by Welcome to Wrexham, draws hundreds of overseas visitors each week. Guests have included Will Ferrell, Hugh Jackman, Paul Rudd and the Prince of Wales, while Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have built a close rapport with Jones.

Minority investor Eric Allyn said the town, community, club and The Turf have become a second home since the family’s 2024 investment through Red Dragon Ventures, and that bringing the pub into the group secures its long-term future and preserves the club’s history. He is a regular at the bar and has even joined fans on away trips.

The pub predates the club and players once changed there, a tradition that began in the 19th century. Until 1999, a balcony at The Turf overlooked the pitch.

In 2011, The Turf hosted a crisis meeting when Wrexham faced expulsion from the Conference without a £250,000 bond in 48 hours, prompting fans to raise £100,000 that helped keep the club in business. Wrexham are 14th in the Championship.
