Wrexham could be set to make a move for experienced Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson as they seek further reinforcements for the Championship.
Wrexham are reportedly ready to raid Sheffield United once again after the signing of Kieffer Moore, with the Red Dragons now setting their sights on Jack Robinson.
Wrexham had a harsh introduction to their return to the Championship at St Mary's on Saturday, with two late goals sending them to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Southampton.
They could be set to further strengthen their defence off the back of that result by making a bid for a defender with more than a decade's worth of Championship experience.
The Red Dragons have already brought in eight new players this summer, and it's already clear that manager Phil Parkinson wants more experienced heads at the back, with the signature of Conor Coady having already been secured.
Now Coady could be joined by another centre-back with reams of experience.
Journalist Alan Nixon reports via Patreon on Sunday that Wrexham are interested in signing the highly experienced Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson, who's been at Bramall Lane for the last five-and-a-half years.
It wouldn't be the first time that the Red Dragons have descended upon the Blades this summer in the search of new recruits, with Kieffer Moore having already been signed from United for £2 million.
Robinson is understood to be keen on discussing the move with Wrexham, and his versatility, in terms of being able to play in the centre of defence or at full-back, is a significant selling point for the Welsh side.
Interestingly, Nixon reveals that a move for Robinson was at an advanced stage until United sold Anel Ahmedhodzic to Feyenoord, but he states that the Red Dragons' interest has failed to subside.
Sheffield United may want to resist Wrexham's move for the player, though.
Their 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Bristol City on Saturday evening demonstrated that they perhaps cannot afford to lose such an experienced defender at such a time.
Robinson is a familiar face in the Championship, having run up 10 seasons playing in the division for six different clubs; Wolves, QPR, Blackpool, Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United respectively.
He's been at Bramall Lane for five-and-a-half years, after signing for Nottingham Forest in January 2020.
Robinson signed a one-year contract extension with the Blades earlier this year, which was reportedly triggered when he completed 25 League appearances for them.
As such, Sheffield United would be entitled to a transfer fee for him, but considering that the extension was only for a year and the age of the player - Robinson turns 32 on 1 September - it's unlikely that the fee would be particularly high.
None of this means that Sheffield United are obliged to sell the player, but if Robinson is, as reported, interested in the move, it would make little sense for the Blades to keep hold of an unhappy player, despite their poor performance in their opening game of the League season.
