Wrexham are considering a move for Leicester City's Harry Souttar in the summer transfer window.
Wrexham enjoyed a successful season in the Championship last time out after a remarkable three promotions in a row.
Whilst there was disappointment that they failed to make the play-offs, which would’ve given them a shot at going from National League to Premier League in four years, there’s no doubt they are a club heading in the right direction.
Phil Parkinson has done an excellent job since his appointment, and the challenge next season will be to have another push for promotion, with the extended play-off format set to benefit the Red Dragons.
However, that won’t be easy, as the 2026/27 Championship is shaping up to be extremely competitive, but Wrexham are in a strong position.
The busy summer window 12 months ago has left Parkinson with a solid squad, so it’s unlikely there will be a major overhaul of the squad in the coming months.
Instead, it’s about adding quality individuals who can raise the level, and it appears Leicester City’s Harry Souttar is someone Wrexham think can do that.
That’s after the Daily Mail revealed the Championship side are keen on the centre-back, who is currently at the World Cup with Australia and is preparing to play in the knockout stages with the Socceroos.
The giant defender is contracted to Leicester, but relegation to League One means they may have to cash in on Souttar, who has made just 18 appearances for the Foxes since his arrival in January 2023.
The update explains that Souttar is ‘open’ to making the switch to Wrexham, as he looks to test himself at the highest level possible.
The only real issue with Souttar is his fitness record, as he has had some terrible luck with injuries over the years, including an Achilles problem that meant he missed virtually all of last season, playing only the final two matches of the season.

Yet, to his credit, Souttar still looks a class act when he plays. His only two appearances for Leicester in the previous campaign came in the last two games, and, even in such a small sample size, he had a massive impact on the team, with the Foxes picking up four points.
Naturally, that left Leicester fans wondering how their season would’ve played out if Souttar had been fit.
He has taken that form into the World Cup, with Souttar a commanding presence for the Socceroos. He is outstanding in the air, he can read the game well, and he is a vocal figure who organises his team.
So, from a Wrexham perspective, it’s a no-brainer if the deal is suitable, as he could be a massive asset to Parkinson and the team. Nevertheless, his injury record is a major worry, which is why it’s imperative they get the right deal.
This would be a blow for Leicester, but sales are needed following back-to-back relegations, and it could be argued it makes sense to move on what will be a decent salary when there are no guarantees that Souttar will play regularly.
Given Souttar’s lack of game time over the years, it’s understandable that Leicester fans would be frustrated at the prospect of losing the ex-Stoke City man, who has two years left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium.
But, this supporter understood why Souttar may want to move on…
Meanwhile, this fan urged Leicester to stand firm on their valuation of the player.
It's unclear what sort of fee Leicester would demand for Souttar, but this fan feels they should hold out for £15m.
