Wrexham are weighing up a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with Millwall and Wolves also keen, according to Sky Sports News, which adds he is available for transfer this summer.

Sunderland have set an asking price of around £8m to £10m and the 26-year-old has two years left on his deal. He is currently the third-choice keeper at the Stadium of Light.

Patterson played a key role in the Black Cats’ promotion from the Championship last year, but lost his starting place under Regis Le Bris to Robin Roefs after the latter’s arrival from NEC Nijmegen.

Short of minutes, he joined Millwall on loan in January to work again with former Sunderland boss Alex Neil. He soon became first choice at The Den and helped them reach the Championship play-off semi-finals, where they were beaten by Hull City.

Competition at Sunderland remains tight, with Melker Ellborg understood to be content as number two while Patterson is not thought to feel the same. The academy graduate wants regular football, and any move to a Championship club could depend on Sunderland being realistic on price. That valuation may prove difficult for most second-tier sides.
