Wrexham are considering a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with Millwall and Wolves also interested, Sky Sports News reports. The report adds he is available for transfer this summer and that the fee could be negotiated.
Patterson played a major role in Sunderland’s promotion from the Championship last year, but was displaced as first choice when Robin Roefs arrived from NEC Nijmegen under head coach Regis Le Bris.
Short of minutes, the 26-year-old joined Millwall on loan in January to work with former Sunderland boss Alex Neil. He quickly became number one at The Den and helped the Lions reach the Championship play-off semi-finals, where they were beaten by Hull City.
Patterson has two years remaining on his contract and is currently third choice at the Stadium of Light. Competition is intense, with Melker Ellborg understood to be content as number two, while the academy graduate wants regular football at this stage of his career.
Sunderland value Patterson at around £8m to £10m, a figure that may be challenging for many second-tier clubs. There is hope from the player’s side that the club will be realistic if a Championship move emerges this summer.
