Xavi worried about Barcelona star De Jong’s injury after being named Netherlands manager | OneFootball

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s situation has created much discourse in recent months, especially after the player returned injured from the FIFA World Cup.

Having been diagnosed with an injury during the tournament, the player was told it was minor and played through the discomfort. 

Eventually, his injury flared up to the point where his condition was poor upon arrival in Catalonia. Now, he has been ruled out for the opening months of the new season.

Barcelona legend is worried

As reported by SPORT in a recent update, Barcelona legend and former manager Xavi Hernandez is also deeply concerned about the player’s situation and slow recovery.

After all, he has now been appointed the new manager of the Dutch national team.

Having succeeded another Barcelona icon, Ronald Koeman, as the Oranje boss, Xavi is hoping for the player to return soon.

As matters stand, the player is still plagued by the right knee ligament injury and is undergoing conservative treatment. There is currently no known date of return and his condition is not improving as expected.

Should the situation persist, surgery will become a real option and going under the blade will sideline him for a much longer period.

Xavi will make his debut as the Dutch national team manager late in September, and it is close to impossible that the player will make it back for that international break.

The entire situation, needless to say, is difficult for De Jong who must watch from the sidelines as his place in the starting XI moves away.

Barcelona have already brought in Rodri who will take the Dutchman’s place in the lineup, and he will not have it easy to win his spot back.

As far as his recovery goes, however, the midfielder is confident that conservative management will suffice and that surgery is not required.

The club, at this point, will hope that is true for a surgery now will likely rule him out for the majority of the season and even rule out any potential transfer in the winter.
