According to The Star, the Owls are taking a look at the 20-year-old, who could be available to sign following Yan Valery’s departure to Fenerbahce.

The full-back made the move to the Turkish giants on loan earlier this week, leaving a space open in Henrik Pedersen’s squad that could be filled by a free agent.

It has been a turbulent campaign to say the least for the Yorkshire outfit, who are currently still in administration despite a preferred bidder being named to buy the club in December.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to be relegated to League One, with the team’s position at the bottom of the table all but guaranteed at this stage of the season.

It’s understood that Silcott-Duberry’s contract status is not clear at the moment, but that he is an option for Sheffield Wednesday.

The club are hopeful of being able to find someone that can contribute over a longer time after their deal to bring in Nathan Redmond ultimately didn’t work out.

Fitness issues held back the winger, who made six appearances in the Championship prior to his exit from Hillsborough.

Silcott-Duberry has been training with the Sheffield Wednesday first team squad, having previously been with Greek side Olympiacos.

However, no official contract offer has yet been made and other options in the free agent market are still being weighed up.

It’s believed that Sheffield Wednesday will not have the full funds of Valery’s wages available to spend despite him no longer being on the books for the rest of the season.

Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a home clash against fifth place Millwall on 14 February in a 3pm kick-off.

Zain Silcott-Duberry option shows the lack of choice for Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday could use another body through the door for the rest of the campaign, and bringing in Silcott-Duberry is certainly one way they could manage that.

The 20-year-old has come through at Norwich City, Chelsea and Bournemouth but hasn’t made any kind of impact at senior level in his career yet.

But with so few alternatives available for the Owls, then it might be worth taking a look at him and seeing what he can do at a Championship level.

It’s unlikely he will demand high wages, so there’s not much risk to bringing him on board at this point of the season.
