Newcastle United summer signing Yoane Wissa (29) has taken a significant step toward his long-awaited debut after training with his new teammates for the first time since completing his £55m move from Brentford, as reported by Sky Sports.

The 29-year-old striker, who arrived at St James’ Park in August, has been sidelined with a knee injury sustained while on international duty with DR Congo in September. Until this week, Wissa had been limited to individual rehabilitation work, but Eddie Howe confirmed the forward has now joined the main group.

Yoane is doing well,” said the Newcastle manager. “He trained with us for the first time on Wednesday when we came back from Marseille. I was really pleased with how he looked. That was his first time competitively with the group.”

Howe was encouraged by Wissa’s sharpness but stressed the club will monitor his reaction closely as they build him toward full match fitness. The Newcastle boss, however, refused to reveal when supporters might see their new signing in action.

We’ve got one date in mind, but it’s best to keep it to myself,” Howe added. “I don’t want to disappoint anybody. We want to involve him as soon as possible, but we need to make sure he’s ready to perform.”
