Chris Waddle has compared David Storch's ownership of Sheffield Wednesday to Dejphon Chansiri

Sheffield Wednesday’s long wait for a new owner ended in May when Arise Capital completed their takeover.

The Owls went into administration in October, but had to wait several months before the group led by David Storch could take control.

The Yorkshire outfit endured significant financial mismanagement under Dejphon Chansiri, but will now be hoping for a brighter future with him out of the picture.

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for life back in League One after suffering relegation from the Championship.

Henrik Pedersen will be keen to rebuild the squad over the summer in order to restore the club to a competitive level.

The Dane oversaw just two wins from 46 league games this season, with the team finishing with zero points due to receiving a combined deduction tally of 18.

Chris Waddle has claimed that Chansiri was not interested in working with fan favourite former players when he was in charge at Sheffield Wednesday, accusing him of wanting to destroy the club’s history.

However, he believes that the new owners are already doing far more to connect with the supporters, praising their impact so far.

"Chansiri lost touch with the ex-players," said Waddle, via the BBC.

"He wanted to wipe that history away because he wasn't the chairman at the time.

“You can't do that.

“A lot of these fans remember those days - and cling to those days to be honest.

"The new owners have come in and want to embrace it.

“Hopefully, and luckily, I think we've got the right guys in charge."

Sheffield Wednesday have already confirmed the arrival of David Bruce as the new CEO, with Simon Wilson reportedly being lined up to arrive as sporting director.

Storch has moved quickly since being confirmed as the new owner, and it is set to be a busy summer at Hillsborough.

Supporters will be keen to see Arise Capital invest in both the first team squad, as well as the club’s infrastructure, including Hillsborough.

The Owls have already confirmed a change to their badge, bringing back the more retro Owls style.

Storch has also been keen to engage with fans, including the Supporters Trust, while Chansiri was widely criticised in the years before his departure.

Sheffield Wednesday will need to rebuild the squad over the summer in order to compete in League One.

Fans will be hoping for the side to fight for promotion back to the Championship as quickly as possible.

The transfer window officially opens on 15 June, and runs until 1 September, so it could be a busy few months ahead.

Sheffield Wednesday will learn their first opponent of the new campaign on 25 June, although Arise Capital were installed in time to oversee their final game of this term, with Pedersen’s side winning 2-1 against West Brom.

Engaging supporters will earn David Storch a lot of leeway at Sheffield Wednesday

Storch has done a lot of the right things since Arise Capital’s takeover was confirmed, and engaging with supporters will be key to maintaining a healthy role as owner.

While it may take some time to turn things around, and there will no doubt be mistakes made along the way, he will earn a lot of leeway with fans by being open and transparent.

Utilising the club’s rich history will be a welcome change of pace compared to Chansiri, who did everything in his power to turn off the fans during his time in charge.
