“You look tired”: Bayern star Díaz gets a much-needed break | OneFootball

Luis Díaz will get a much-needed break during the upcoming international break. The FC Bayern attacking star was not called up by Colombia’s national team coach Néstor Lorenzo for the friendly matches against Mexico, Paraguay, and Peru. The decision appears to be the result of a specific agreement between the record champions and the Colombian Football Federation.

Díaz is expected to use the time to recover in Munich and focus on improving his physical condition. After the heavy workload of the past few months, the 29-year-old is still searching for his best form.

Lorenzo confirmed that the Bayern star’s fatigue had also been noticed by the Colombian national team. The national team coach therefore personally sought a conversation with his key player.

“I spoke with him and said, ‘You look tired, Lucho. You don’t have your usual burst of speed—what’s going on?’—And well, we agreed that he should rest this week because he’s played more than 60 games.”

Bayern and Colombia are pulling together

For FC Bayern, the decision likely comes at the right time. Díaz himself had recently admitted that he hasn’t yet returned to his best form. Especially in front of the opponent’s goal, things aren’t going as usual for the winger at the moment.

His explosiveness also seems to have suffered under the heavy workload. Lorenzo noted in particular that Díaz is currently lacking his usual sprinting ability.

The past few months have been intense for the Colombian. After a long season with Bayern, the World Cup followed in the summer, before preparations for the new season began again. According to Lorenzo, Díaz has now played more than 60 matches.

Instead of traveling with the national team for three more matches, the attacking player can now stay in Munich. There, he’s not only supposed to recover but also work on his fitness at the same time.

Díaz is expected to be back in action after the break.

The extra rest could also prove particularly valuable in light of Bayern’s upcoming schedule. After the long international break, Vincent Kompany’s team faces an extremely packed schedule.

Eight competitive matches in the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB Cup are scheduled within 25 days. Kompany will need a squad that’s as fit as possible during this phase.

Díaz is expected to get as close to his top form as possible by then. The Colombian has already made it clear that he is not yet fully satisfied with his performances so far. He recently stated: “I’m searching for my best self, and I’ll find it soon.”

While many of his Bayern teammates are away with their national teams during the international break, Díaz is now getting extra time for precisely that purpose.

His omission from the national team roster is therefore not a sporting decision to bench him. Rather, Bayern and the Colombian Football Federation have apparently made a conscious decision to give their key player a break. After more than 60 games, Díaz is set to recharge his batteries—and then return to attack for Munich with his usual explosiveness.
