Youssouf Fofana ‘to join’ Lyon on loan from AC Milan

Gianluca di Marzio reports that Youssouf Fofana, 27, is closing on a return to Ligue 1 with a loan move to Lyon that includes an option to buy, and that talks between AC Milan and Lyon are at an advanced stage.

The midfielder has been told by Milan head coach Ruben Amorim that he is not part of the plans for this season.

Fofana was left out of Milan’s matchday squad for the first two Serie A fixtures.

He joined Milan from AS Monaco in summer 2024 for a 26m fee and went on to make 88 appearances for the club.

Fofana’s arrival could prompt Lyon to move on a defensive-minded midfielder, with Tanner Tessmann one possibility, and he has reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League sides.
