Yuri Alberto is a doubt for Corinthians’ clássico against Santos on Sunday at 16:00 at Neo Química Arena in Brasileirão round 25. UOL Esporte reports that after returning to squad training this week, the striker felt pain in his right thigh on Thursday.
He had been undergoing an accelerated physical transition from a grade 2 injury in the same area, which had raised hopes of a Clássico Alvinegro return. After the fresh discomfort, he was kept out of Thursday’s work, though scans detected no new injury.
As a precaution, and with long-term recovery in mind, particularly with the Libertadores quarter-finals against Estudiantes of Argentina, he could be rested to avoid a setback. He will be reassessed after Friday’s session before a decision is made.
Alberto has not played since 30 July, the 0-0 draw with Athletico-PR. Introduced at half-time, he lasted about 30 minutes before feeling a twinge in his right leg, requesting an immediate change and leaving the pitch in tears.
It was not his only issue in 2026. In February, the number nine sustained a grade 2 left thigh injury against São Bernardo in the Campeonato Paulista, returning a little over a month later to face Chapecoense. Despite his current absence, he remains the club’s top scorer with eight goals in 33 games, two ahead of centre-back Gustavo Henrique.
Sunday’s meeting offers Corinthians a chance to end a run of two league defeats. Victory could lift them from 10th on 32 points to eighth by the end of the round.
