Santos could face another transfer ban over unpaid fees from the loan of Gambian forward Yusupha Njie. In December, FIFA partially upheld Al-Markhiya's claim and set the amount due at 399,000 euros, with an additional 25,000 dollars in costs. The club is also awaiting a ruling in a separate case brought by coach Pedro Caixinha.

According to Globo.com, Santos has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and is awaiting judgement. If the decision is upheld and the sum is not paid, the club would be barred from registering players for three transfer windows.

Al-Markhiya loaned Njie for the second half of 2024, initially until June 2025, but Santos terminated the deal at the end of 2024 and returned the player. The clubs then agreed seven instalments of 50,000 euros to be paid between January and July last year, none of which were settled.

Santos acknowledged the debt and cited financial difficulties, asking for a 5% deduction under the FIFA solidarity mechanism and for penalties to be cut from 10% to 5%. The judge accepted the 5% deduction, reducing the principal from 350,000 to 332,500 euros, but kept the penalties in place.

Njie spent three months with Santos and did not make an appearance. He was on the bench for the 3-2 defeat by Chapecoense in the 32nd round of Série B. He is currently on loan from Al-Markhiya to Al-Wakrah in Qatar.
