Zimmermann signs one-year Düsseldorf extension ahead of ninth season

According to BuLi News, Fortuna Düsseldorf have confirmed that 34-year-old Matthias Zimmermann has signed a one-year extension. The deal keeps him at the club for the 2026-27 season, his ninth campaign.

Zimmermann joined from VfB Stuttgart in summer 2018 and has made 250 competitive appearances for the Red and Whites.

He has recorded 15 goals and 22 assists and is 20th on Fortuna's all-time appearance list.

After his professional career, Zimbo is slated to take a key role with the U-23s, signalling a long-term commitment to the club.

Sporting director Samir Arabi said the defender is highly valued throughout the team and club, described the commitment as a strong statement, and stressed that his quality, experience and mentality make him an important part of the squad.
