Zinedine Zidane confirms Real Madrid star as France captain | OneFootball

New France national team head coach Zinedine Zidane has confirmed his intention to continue with Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé as his captain moving forward.

Frontman Mbappé has for his part been in possession of the French captain’s armband since all the way back in 2023, following the retirement of Hugo Lloris.

The honour was afforded to the 27-year-old by now-former Les Bleus headmaster Didier Deschamps.

Following Deschamps’ exit in the aftermath of this summer’s World Cup, though, it had been rumoured that the armband could head elsewhere, with many managers not in favour of their side being captained by a striker.

But for the aforementioned Zinedine Zidane, as much is evidently not considered an issue.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media after naming his first-ever French squad on Friday evening, legendary midfielder ‘Zizou’ assured:

”Mbappé will be my captain. He’s the best player in the world.”
