Carlo Ancelotti is close to finalising Brazil’s World Cup squad and, with two call-ups left, he is targeting a left-footed centre-back, with Flamengo’s Léo Pereira among the options. According to Coluna Do Fla, Ancelotti has said only a few details remain before he completes his list.

Murillo of Nottingham Forest and Lucas Beraldo of PSG were the most recent players tested in that role. Pereira is considered an option alongside Gabriel Magalhães, who is also left footed.

Pereira has yet to receive a senior Brazil call-up, though he was a regular for the under-17s and under-20s.

In November 2025, he voiced frustration at being overlooked, saying he felt ready, in top form, and questioned what more he could do.

In 2025, Ancelotti frequently selected Léo Ortiz and Danilo, so it is quite possible that at least one of them will be in his final squad. Brazil’s next opponents are France and Croatia.

Brazil open their World Cup against Morocco on 13 June in Group C in the United States. Flamengo may also supply players to other national teams.
