In an interview with kicker, Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl addressed the 2026 World Cup and if he has hopes of being a part of the Germany squad.
This season has been the 18-year-old’s breakout season, and naturally, there has been talk and suggestions that he could be a part of the Germany squad for the World Cup this summer.
However, despite all the talk, it is unlikely that he will be heading to the US in the summer. When asked about what he would be doing in the summer, Karl said:
“I know what you mean. But for me, the only thing that matters is giving my all at Bayern – only then can I hope for a call-up. Anyone who doesn’t hope for something like that has no place in football.”
Adding if he has been in contact with the national team head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, the 18-year-old said:
“Not yet, no. But it was really cool in the U21 team with all the talented players from the Bundesliga.”
Following Karl’s birthday on Sunday, it meant that his contract at the Bundesliga leaders turned into a professional deal which is valid until 2029.
However, Bayern are looking to extend the forward’s contract until 2031 and give him a pay rise following his strong first season as a professional so far.
