Manchester United legend Roy Keane has made it clear that he wants to see a big personality like Diego Simeone coming in at Old Trafford.

Although Keane also admitted he’s be prepared to give current Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim a bit more time, he couldn’t hide his admiration for Simeone.

The Atletico Madrid manager has done a tremendous job with limited resources at Atletico, twice winning the La Liga title and making it to two Champions League finals.

In many ways it’s surprising that Atletico have been able to keep Simeone for so long, as he looks like someone who’d surely be in demand at bigger clubs.

Asked who his dream appointment for United would be, Keane didn’t hesitate in naming the Argentine as someone who’d cause the kind of “havoc” that the club needs.

Roy Keane would love to see Diego Simeone as Manchester United manager

“I’ve said it for years … I’d like to see Diego Simeone going there. I think he’d create havoc, but good havoc. I’d like to see his personality and his track record,” the former Red Devils captain said on The Overlap.

“They beat Real Madrid, they scored five … yes he likes his teams a bit defensive, but they have that fighting spirit. I like a big personality.”

Gary Neville agreed with Keane’s choice, while Ian Wright also suggested that someone like Antonio Conte could be another similarly good option.

Simeone to replace Amorim at United?

One imagines it’s not that realistic to expect Simeone to replace Amorim any time soon.

Not only has Simeone been loyal to Atletico Madrid, but it also looks like United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be loyal to Amorim and give him more time to turn things around.
