Young defender will be given first-team opportunities during season run-un
Chelsea have confirmed their decision to recall Mamadou Sarr from his loan to Strasbourg.
Liam Rosenior is understood to be keen to bolster his defensive options, and Chelsea held talks over a deal for Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet before he decided to sign a pre-contract agreement with Liverpool.
Rather than spend big on a new first-team player, though, the Blues have opted to accelerate Sarr’s first-team integration.
Chelsea signed him from BlueCo sister club Strasbourg in summer before immediately loaning him back to the Ligue 1 side with a plan to introduce him to the Chelsea first-team in summer of 2026.
Standard Sport reported on Sunday that the player was travelling to London to formalise the move.
A club statement confirming the decision read: “Mamadou Sarr has returned to Chelsea from his loan spell at Strasbourg.
“The 20-year-old signed for the Blues in June and made his debut against ES Tunis during our triumphant Club World Cup campaign.
“He rejoined Strasbourg on loan in August, making 18 appearances for the French club in Ligue 1 and the Conference League.
“Sarr earned his first cap for Senegal in November and was included in their squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
“Having featured twice as a substitute earlier in the tournament, Sarr started the final as Senegal were crowned champions following a dramatic 1-0 extra-time victory over Morocco.”
Sarr will be replaced at Strasbourg by another Chelsea loanee in Aaron Anselmino, who was recalled from his season-long loan to Borussia Dortmund in late January.
Sarr has already had a taste of first-team football at Chelsea, having represented the Blues at the Club World Cup last summer.
He worked under Rosenior at Strasbourg, too, before the manager earned a similar promotion and moved to west London in January.
